Frank & Stein Electronics is a two-person shop in Plano, Texas. We fix and build tube amps, pedals, and guitar wiring — by hand, one at a time, for people who care what’s inside the box.

Our purpose

Quality repairs and builds to support your musical journey.

That sentence has been on our site since day one, and it is not marketing language — it is the actual job description. Somebody’s amp is the thing standing between them and the gig on Friday. Somebody’s pedal is the sound they hear in their head when they write. When that gear stops working, the music stops with it. Getting it running again is the whole point of this shop.

Frank & Stein is two people. One of us is a US Army combat veteran; both of us have spent our lives around music.

We have loved music since we were kids. That never turned into a stadium tour — it turned into a soldering iron, a scope, and a growing pile of other people’s road-worn gear. We are glad it did. There is a particular satisfaction in handing an analog amp back to its owner sounding better than they have ever heard it, and telling them honestly what it took to get there.

Everything that comes across this bench gets treated like it’s ours. Integrity and respect — for you, and for your gear.
How we work

Honest diagnosis. Approved pricing. Written proof.

Most people who bring us gear have been burned before — by a shop that took six weeks and did not call, by an invoice that doubled without warning, or by a “repair” that came back with the same hum it left with. So here is exactly how we run a job, and you can hold us to it.

  1. We diagnose before we quoteYour amp goes on the bench and gets an actual diagnosis, not a guess over the phone. You get told what is wrong in plain language.
  2. You approve the price before we cutNothing gets replaced until you have said yes to a number. If the job changes once we are inside, we stop and call you. There are no surprise invoices here.
  3. You get it back with a written reportEvery part we replaced, documented. You should know what is inside your own amp — especially when you sell it, insure it, or bring it back in five years.
All-analog benchTubes, transformers, real caps and resistors. No modelers, no menus, nothing you cannot open up and service yourself.
We will talk you out of workIf your amp needs a thirty-dollar fix, we will tell you it needs a thirty-dollar fix. Selling you a re-cap you do not need is a bad way to keep a customer.
Vintage gets vintage treatmentOriginal parts stay original where they are safe to keep. You make the call.
Local and ship-inDFW drop-off by appointment, or ship it to us from anywhere in the country and we will send packing instructions.

What we are not.

We would rather set expectations now than disappoint you later.

  • We are not a factory warranty center. If your amp is under manufacturer warranty, take it to the authorized shop first — work we do could void it.
  • We are not a big-box counter. There are two of us. That means you talk to the person who actually worked on your gear, and it also means we are not doing same-day turnarounds on a Saturday.
  • We do not guess. If something is outside what we can do well, we will say so and point you somewhere better.
We are not a factory warranty outlet and not liable for work that breaks a manufacturer’s warranty or the warranty of work performed by other shops.
